KiwiTruck Racers: Nurturing Future Motorsport Champions
The KiwiTruck offroad racing program, designed for children aged 7 to 12, is more than just a thrilling motorsport activity. It’s an educational journey that teaches young racers the fundamentals of mechanics, teamwork, and the value of sponsorship.
Hands-On Learning and Teamwork
Children involved in KiwiTruck racing are deeply engaged in the preparation and maintenance of their vehicles. This hands-on experience, guided by parents and supported by their Offroad Racing Club, goes beyond driving skills. It instills a solid understanding of mechanics and the importance of teamwork. Young racers learn to work as part of a team, keeping their parents and sponsors happy, and maintaining their race cars in top condition.
Sponsorship and Real-World Skills
While many young racers rely on the “bank of mom and dad” for sponsorship, some have successfully secured support from major corporate entities. A notable example is Holly Russell, who reached out to Lucas Oil and secured sponsorship after impressing them on track and with her social media presence. Holly raced Kiwitruck under the Lucas Oil brand for two years, followed by a further two year racing in LiteBuggy and continues to be supported by them as she transitions into motocross.
Building Future Champions
KiwiTruck racing has produced several notable drivers who have advanced to other Offroad categories and in some cases other motorsport disciplines. Alumni like Lincoln Whiddett, Jack Hawkeswood, Ollie McCall, Matthew Bishop, Holly Russell, Boston Horan, Brooklyn Horan, Asher Morgan, Kenna Baker, Aaron Crabb, and Fergus Crabb have all benefited from the skills and experiences gained through this program.
